§ 01 — About

Building resilient transportation systems

I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Indiana. I earned my Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the University of Oklahoma, where I conducted research with Dr. Arif Mohaimin Sadri at the Transportation, Risk, and Information Commons (TRICS) Lab. My research examines how transportation systems respond to hazards, electrification, and changing human behavior. My doctoral work examined how EV adoption can reshape wildfire evacuation risk and how infrastructure planning can address that risk.

I combine transportation engineering, machine learning, large-scale data analysis, and system optimization to study traffic safety, road-network resilience, electric-vehicle infrastructure, and crisis communication. Across these areas, I focus on how engineering and planning decisions can make transportation systems safer, more accessible, and better prepared for disruption. I use empirical data, network models, and optimization methods to connect system-level patterns with practical planning decisions.

At Rose-Hulman, I connect transportation theory with real infrastructure data through project-based teaching. My teaching experience includes transportation engineering, traffic analysis, and AI in civil engineering. I welcome conversations with prospective students, research collaborators, and practitioners interested in transportation resilience, EV infrastructure, traffic safety, or crisis response. I aim to help students see how transportation theory becomes a practical engineering decision.

My work combines transportation engineering, network science, and social-media data to understand how transportation systems perform during hazards and how they can become safer, more sustainable, and more equitable.
